Acquiring

Inlösare

Den licensierade banken eller finansinstitutet som innehar handlarens MID och reglerar korttransaktioner å handlarens vägnar.

An acquirer is a licensed financial institution that facilitates the acceptance of credit and debit card payments for merchants. As a principal member of card schemes like Visa and Mastercard, the acquirer manages the processing of transaction data and ensures that funds are settled from the cardholder's issuing bank to the merchant's business account. Beyond simple processing, the acquirer manages the Merchant Identification Number (MID) and performs critical risk management, including underwriting the merchant for potential credit losses or chargeback liabilities. They are responsible for ensuring compliance with industry regulations such as PCI DSS and mandated security protocols like 3D Secure (SCA). While many businesses interact primarily with a payment gateway or PSP, the acquirer remains the underlying entity that handles the movement of money and bears the final regulatory responsibility for the merchant's card volume.

Vanligt förekommande

What is the difference between an acquirer and a payment service provider (PSP)?

An acquirer is a licensed bank that settles funds and holds the credit risk for transactions, whereas a PSP often acts as an intermediary providing software and connectivity. While some PSPs have their own acquiring licenses, many simply partner with an underlying acquirer to process payments on behalf of the merchant.

How do acquirers set their pricing for card processing?

Acquirers typically charge based on Interchange Plus (IC+) or blended pricing models. These costs cover the interchange fee paid to the issuer, scheme fees paid to Visa or Mastercard, and the acquirer's own margin, which accounts for the operational risk and settlement services provided.
